Achilles Blog 1 – 3.5.14. On the plus side….

Hi yall

just to let u know how my achilles tendon is doin…

Had op on 22nd Apr after having dilly-dallied over whether to have it or not… but i think I made right decision as they found a complete rupture and a partial tear … so v bad indeed…

saw consultant today and they took out about 8 or so horrible ‘staples’ from the 4-5″ wound – leg looks like Frankensteins. However the incision is healing very well (helped I think by Earthing – which I think I have mentioned to some of you – see link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XumPQLTzPWI). Now back in fresh cast for another 4 weeks (to end of May) to hopefully fully re-connect/heal the tendon… then they’ll probably put me in an adjustable boot/brace, then the hard part – rehab… my leg muscles will atrophy… so I’ll have to have physio to both make the tendon work properly and the muscles too – twill be a long haul.

On the plus side, my aim has improved tremendously …. I can even throw things round corners, as well as directly into bins. I may take up golf as I can now wack things across the floor pretty well with the crutches. Crutches are like having a dog – people stop and talk to u, especially kids… who want to know what happened. It’s fun chucking things down the stairs (like bundles of washing)! I have been shopping in sainsburys on one leg and I have also been on the bus several times… so feeling quite chuffed. Also … strange men will carry your shopping home for u… OK not so strange… 2 of my neighbours actually. All those jobs at home I don’t want to do are slowly starting to get done!! Like tidying my study…. and repairing that woven footstool…

Just thought I’d update u.

Love,
Jx

About aintwegotitmade

Who am I?.......well, I'm getting to that age where I have to think about that before I answer... My name is J, I'm married, and my husband and I live in the great city of London. I started this blog as an update to family and friends when I completely ruptured my Achilles tendon a few years ago (see The first post). I am so fortunate in every possible way...and in all honesty, I'm just using this blog to remind myself... Why is it called Ain't we got it made?: this is a line from one of my favourite songs (Sing Baby Sing - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtTgtkDLNys). Have I got it made? Well - I've got a roof over my head, running water right into my house, a fully-stocked supermarket round the corner, free and readily available healthcare; and I live with my lovely husband in a great city, in a beautiful country, where I feel safe and secure.... I rest my case. Fact or opinion: I am not an expert on anything… but I can confirm that everything in this blog is either fact or opinion. I hope to post regularly, mostly about things I find uplifting, positive, amusing, optimistic, important..or perhaps just about regular daily life...but I won't bother you too much. Thanks for stopping by... jx
