I have the most delightful, delightful, delightful Godson! I was stranded at Sainsbury’s carrying a rucksack full of beverages for the FA cup final – too heavy to crutch back home. He and his Dad swing by to pick me up and before I could even say hello, 12 year old Angus has jumped out of the car, opened the car door, taken the rucksack off my back, installed me in the car and jumped back in the front with the heavy rucksack on his lap! Part of a mad Saturday that included watching Arsenal win silverware for the first time in 9 years… and Jay and I going to a 70s/80s themed disco… where I dance with one leg on a chair….in a red 1950s style dress (it’s all retro to me…). I’m pretty certain this is going to be a great, great summer!!
Having said that… my leg is feeling trapped… absolutely wants to escape the cast and run off. Constantly holding my leg up is starting to tell on other muscles so I am going to allow my toes to rest on the floor – my foot is in rigid ‘equine’ position (horses are permanently on tip-toe!) – so it’s really not possible to put my full weight on it and do any serious damage (I think). This is a balancing act(!) between the consultant’s caution and what my body feels it can safely do. My feeling is that our bodies are made for moving and sensible moving would be a good……move. I have a specially adapted ‘leg’ stool which I drag around the kitchen to help me get around (see pic) and to date I can balance myself between the crutches (ie both legs off the floor) for up to 9 seconds…but I’m working on this.
