Achilles Blog 40 – 5 Aug 2014. Carefully tip-toeing down the neural path

It is not an achievement to stand on tip-toe, until you realise what it takes to do it. The ball of your foot holds your entire weight! I’m nowhere near there yet… but day by day I can see slow improvement. Niece B (2:1 BSc. Psychology from Goldsmiths!!) was talking to me about the importance of building good neural pathways. I can see that if we think of the brain like a muscle (and they say it is like a muscle)… then our repeated thoughts are like regular exercise building particular kinds of ‘muscle’… so if I repeatedly send the thought ‘I will never walk properly again’ down the neural pathway, it will strengthen that neural pathway (literally a physical pathway) – and my brain is so wonderful it will build this up, reinforce that thought transmission path and do its utmost to achieve it (i.e do its best to make my body do my thoughts). So if our brains are designed to achieve what we believe – we really do have to repeatedly put the best thoughts in them….so I’m ballet-dancing in my head right now…

And talking of reinforcing thoughts/the power of words, check this….www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjJQBjWYDTs
…a careful choice of words is more powerful than I ever realised and it may be only because of that that I managed to win last week’s battles (Yay!).

This is my 40th blog… I guess my leg will be doing more of the same until I see Mr. K in October…. so I am wondering if I will have anything to say… if I do… I may do a proper blog so people can choose to subscribe…..

About aintwegotitmade

Who am I?.......well, I'm getting to that age where I have to think about that before I answer... My name is J, I'm married, and my husband and I live in the great city of London. I started this blog as an update to family and friends when I completely ruptured my Achilles tendon a few years ago (see The first post). I am so fortunate in every possible way...and in all honesty, I'm just using this blog to remind myself... Why is it called Ain't we got it made?: this is a line from one of my favourite songs (Sing Baby Sing - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtTgtkDLNys). Have I got it made? Well - I've got a roof over my head, running water right into my house, a fully-stocked supermarket round the corner, free and readily available healthcare; and I live with my lovely husband in a great city, in a beautiful country, where I feel safe and secure.... I rest my case. Fact or opinion: I am not an expert on anything… but I can confirm that everything in this blog is either fact or opinion. I hope to post regularly, mostly about things I find uplifting, positive, amusing, optimistic, important..or perhaps just about regular daily life...but I won't bother you too much. Thanks for stopping by... jx
