Oh leg… Physio Piotr (http://www.thecalmblueroom.com/) thinks we can loosen the scar tissue but at the moment it is impeding my movement such that although not limping, my body is twisted to the right and this is impacting my right knee and hip in particular. All I can see ahead for some time is maybe 2-3 hours a day of self-massage/physio/walking/gym/yoga/pilates. There is other stuff to be doing….showers to be fixed, hobs to replace, errant washing machines to sort, gardens to clear and flats to refurbish….. but I can do it… I can set aside this time. How many people with this injury can do this… can really find time to give it their best shot? I can.
Refurbishment seems amazingly easy with the marvellous (Bulgarian builder) Zlatko, who is currently replacing a kitchen, refurbishing a bathroom and WC and redecorating a flat with around 6 people in it at any one time. When I couldn’t drive and Zlatko was taking me to one of the flats, I asked him if he was going on holiday (expecting him to say that he would be heading perhaps for one of the lovely sandy beaches on the eastern Bulgarian coast). Oh yes he says… I’m going to South Shields….his strong accent made me think that perhaps this was a Bulgarian resort I hadn’t heard of…no, South Shields, Tyne & Wear he says… I went up there to pick up an industrial oven for Iva (wife and cake maker extraordinaire), and I saw this beautiful beach he says…. hmmm… the stunning (and almost deserted) Northumbrian coastline has to be one of Britain’s best kept secrets… from Brits at any rate.
Am I going to accept limitation? My leg may never be the same again but if it and the rest of my body is going to be anywhere near normal functioning, I am going to need a level of discipline hitherto unknown to me…and not give up like many others do. Maybe the determination of this beautiful young man will help… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLimu0fw8gg ..
