Achilles blog 59 – 24.10.14. Looking after spaceship earth

It’s a stormy day and I’m doing (physio) Piotr’s massage lying on the bed. The clouds were racing by… but I do that thing that happens when you’re sitting in a stationary train but the one right next to yours moves off – and you think your train is the one that’s moving…i.e…me, and spaceship earth, have gone racing off, leaving the clouds behind.  Which reminds me of Star Trek (one of my favourite TV series)…. and pretending a cinema screen is the bridge of the Enterprise… and the cinema audience is the crew…a specially selected ‘Wrath of Khan’ type crew of supreme human specimens getting ready for take off…. usually the lights dim and the film starts before I get too carried away….

I’m looking at the reflection of my knees while in the shower. The reflection is in Jay’s specially installed extending mirror which he uses while shaving in the bath. My right knee is higher than my left knee… and I think I’ve discovered a fundamental problem – I have one leg longer than the other!… Wrong!…. I have got used to standing like the leaning tower of Pisa – leaning so far to the right it looks like one knee is higher…Piotr is seeking to remedy this by giving me a ‘ball-friend’…as he calls it – it’s one of those huge core-stability balls… I have to press it up against a wall with my left hip and do heel raises at the same time (whilst holding on to a counter or bannister)… if the ball falls, I’m putting too much weight on my right leg. The exercises are getting to me now…. I’m just hoping I can bull-doze my way through this period and the exercises…but it is hard to stay focused.

After my last entry about plastics I got some feedback which shows that people are worried about contaminated food and pollution. When I walked into Sainsbury’s today I saw properly for the first time the sheer ubiquitousness of the stuff – unlike even a few years ago, very few items are sold loose… I imagined I would have to go to Lewisham market for unpackaged fruit and veg – or buy more from Riverford (the organic delivery service…www.riverford.co.uk )…. I then envisage every single piece of plastic in my bin breaking down in a landfill…and polluting watercourses.  I don’t want to put ANY plastic into landfill!! But…. I cannot get away from the fact that we are living longer and longer…so we must be doing something right…the trick now is to live healthier and healthier…. which brings me back to those darned exercises….and this stunning 90-year-old lindy-hopperWatch 90-year-old shows off incredible dance moves | Rumble videos online free – Yahoo Screen UK. If I get there, I really really really really want to be dancing at 90…

About aintwegotitmade

Who am I?.......well, I'm getting to that age where I have to think about that before I answer... My name is J, I'm married, and my husband and I live in the great city of London. I started this blog as an update to family and friends when I completely ruptured my Achilles tendon a few years ago (see The first post). I am so fortunate in every possible way...and in all honesty, I'm just using this blog to remind myself... Why is it called Ain't we got it made?: this is a line from one of my favourite songs (Sing Baby Sing - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtTgtkDLNys). Have I got it made? Well - I've got a roof over my head, running water right into my house, a fully-stocked supermarket round the corner, free and readily available healthcare; and I live with my lovely husband in a great city, in a beautiful country, where I feel safe and secure.... I rest my case. Fact or opinion: I am not an expert on anything… but I can confirm that everything in this blog is either fact or opinion. I hope to post regularly, mostly about things I find uplifting, positive, amusing, optimistic, important..or perhaps just about regular daily life...but I won't bother you too much. Thanks for stopping by... jx
